The Value of Trying Something New

The Value of Trying Something New
Why small experiments often lead to meaningful growth

Recently, I was reminded that growth rarely comes from big announcements or bold declarations. More often, it comes from simply showing up—and being willing to try something new.

After listening to a short talk that encouraged sharing process rather than perfection, I decided to experiment. I painted a small piece—Beach Bliss II—and used new technology to capture a brief, 30-second glimpse into how the work came together. It wasn’t a lesson. It wasn’t a tutorial. Just insight into process.

What stood out wasn’t the technology—it was the reminder that progress often starts small.

Watch the Creation

Growth Begins with Willingness
Showing up doesn’t require having everything figured out. It requires curiosity. In organizations, teams grow when someone is willing to test an idea, explore a new tool, or share something before it’s fully polished.

Small Actions Create Momentum
This was a modest experiment, but it reinforced an important truth: progress doesn’t come from waiting for perfect conditions. It comes from using what’s available and taking the next small step.

Sharing Process Builds Trust
People value insight more than instruction. Whether in art or leadership, letting others see how something develops—not just the finished result—creates connection and credibility.

That lesson applies far beyond the studio.

Showing up consistently, staying curious, and being willing to experiment quietly are often the habits that lead to meaningful growth over time.

So here’s a question worth considering:

Where might showing up—just a little differently—open new possibilities for growth and connection?
